We visited JT and Linda Cochran at their home on their
farm in Chiefland on Tuesday. We had a very pleasant time visiting and
reminiscing old times . We then
went to eat great seafood at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Fanning Springs
(about 10 miles north).
JT
worked with with our company, Florida Seed & Feed, from 1954 to 1982 as our Head Bookkeeper. He did an outstanding job keeping all
our records well organized. He had
a birthday yesterday so we could celebrate it with a song at the
restaurant. Linda worked with us
for about 5 years as our Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper and was there to see us
implement our records on computer.
JT and
Linda have been married 25 years…they have a nice home and we enjoyed their
hospitality. It’s great to visit
with old friends who are very active in their retirement.

Chicken Ranch - Located 1 block north of MRMC Hospital....a teenage hangout....another one was THE Big D which later became Mr. Hans, and is now Cactus Carwash on Pine Street.

Mark
Emery is an award-winning filmmaker, musician, and photographer. He most
recently produced and directed "Seasons of the Salmon" for National
Geographic Television....with a home in Ocala.
Today, Mark wrote that...we finished our National Geographic Television shoot on bears and
salmon. It will air in November 2010. The camera rig was extreme one setup
weighed around 60 pounds so we put it on a borrowed pack frame and carried the
cinema tripod and battery pack back and spent time with the bears. The results
of shooting a camera that records 800 frames in one second are truly
remarkable.

A few weeks ago, I began to write a personal
autobiography…just for our immediate family and perhaps future generations of
our family. It’s been an
interesting exercise and has called up a number of memories.
Coincidentally, I know of others who are working on a similar project for themselves.

Billy Leonard's father, Bill Leonard, started Leonard's Business Machines in 1941. Billy joined him full-time in 1961. They have been distributors for Royal, Smith Corona, and IBM typewriters plus adding machines, etc. Billy has been for many years the only place to get a typewriter fixed or overhauled in the Central Florida area plus he also sells typewriters.
He is "semi-retired" but still keeps (his own) office hours between Monday and Thursday. Located in the Branan Building at 27 NE 10th Ave

Oscar
G. Mayer III, the 95-years-old retired chairman of previously family-owned
Oscar Mayer, died this week.
Oscar
G. Mayer was the third family member to run the company prior to his retirement
in 1977 at age 62. This was shortly after the family-owned company made its
first $1 billion yearly profit. Not long after, the company was sold to food
giant, General Foods, who in turn sold it to its current owner, Kraft Foods.
In an odd, yet amusing display of marketing genius, the nephew of Oscar Mayer Sr. devised an idea to create a rolling advertisement that would get people talking about their new hot dog company. Officially dubbed the Wienermobile, it's been known worldwide as the staple of food-based automotive advertising and children's smiles for the past 73 years.

Several years ago, my wife, Mary Ellen, compiled a
Cook-Book entitled “Sharing My Favorites”. There are 427 recipes in 16
categories on 252 pages. It’s been reprinted several times. People have purchased it for their own
use, and for gifts to family and friends.
The original idea for the cookbook was simply to pass
some recipes on to our daughter when she got married. It was to be a single “Xerox” copied pages in a notebook,
but many people said they wanted a copy, so early on it turned into a
full-blown book.
It’s been fun for Mary Ellen to have people tell
her….that’s my favorite cookbook, or that’s the only cookbook I use. When we had the photography studio,
every time we saw a certain service-person turn into the studio in their truck,
we knew that she was coming to pick up a new batch of cookbooks for her friends
who had seen hers and asked her to get them one.
Mary-Ellen still has a limited supply from the last printing
and they are $15 each (plus shipping if needed). She has easily enough recipes to do another book, but don't think I'm ready to tackle that project. In the meantime, I continue to enjoy her cooking.

Wonder if the City has wondered why some people are reluctant to shop downtown? Yes I got a parking ticket while meeting a friend for lunch at Harry's. Other side of the street has no meters. I was parked ON THE TOWN SQUARE where meters are installed.
This is the actual envelope that brought me the nice $20 message!!

Owen Voorhees may seem like an unlikely tech entrepreneur because he's
just 11-years old. But for the last nine months he climbed a mountain
of doubt, overcame unfamiliar programming languages and poured over
college level computer science textbooks--all to develop his very own
iPhone application. Last month, his app, MathTime, debuted in the App
Store and quickly rose to No. 13 in the paid, educational apps section.

From the Bing background screen a few days ago....shows the Buchart Gardens on Victoria Island near Vancouver...a very beautiful facility....we were staying in Vancouver for a week and had a rental car and got to the island on a ferry...spending the night on the island.
